Brief backstory: My 74 is my DD, but I will be slowly converting it to a class 11. After the #1 spark plug blew out of the head, it looks like I am suddenly in the market for heads. I don't know much, so I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I know the casting numbers the heads have to bear (040101375 ending in 2, 13, or 19), but that's about it. Is one casting better than the others? Do heads with these castings come from China, Brazil, and Mexico or just one of the three? Is it pretty easy to find some decent used heads, or should I be looking for some fresh castings? What vendor seems to have the best price on bare or assembled heads? I imagine people are using lighter weight valves, but it also seems to be hard to find light weight valves in stock sizes, what are you guys using?

Compression ratio becomes an issue here too. I'd like to run as much as I can on pump gas, but without a lot of overlap, it doesn't seem like I can get away with too much.

I need to make a decision really soon, and I want to do it right. Thanks

I just received an AirHeadPArts catalog, they purchased a 40 year collection form a VW wreching yard. I think that they are in Ventura or Santa Barbara County.
