I just bought the most rusted 1968 bug you will ever find, the body is perfect as perfect can be except for holes and bubbles all over it. Paid 300 running and drivable with rust included with current reg. I am going to use it for a daily driver and I wanted to be like Ed and have a 68 in my stable. It really is a shame the car is rusted, because the body has never been hit anywhere but it runs great. Even the front turn signals are rust bubbled all over Whats more insane about this rust bucket, is I drove over 100 miles to get the darn thing ONE WAY!! DUH,Nice thing about having Trple AAA towing, cost me 0 to send it home. What really sucks is when the guy tells you it is a 69 so automaticly you think IRS rear untill you see that very short torsion bar in the fender well and reality hits and the guy continues to insist it is a 69, untell the pink tells the story!!. Oh well, no racy racy for this rust bucket, unless it is stop light to stop light. Now if I can keep the seats from falling threw the floor....I forgot one last thing, it has 37000 original miles on it!!, To bad it is so rusted it is beyond restore

IRS-it Dave. 68 (autostick) and be perfectly legal. Yeah I'm anti-swing myself. I don't swing around. Unless it is in one of my vintage street cars. That is the only exception to swing.

Hey Dave. I'm not sure if you remember but our new car is a '68 autostick FYI. Pretty fancy stuff! I'm not going to run an autostick trans though, LOL.

Yes, a auto stick 68 can be run only with IRS but a swing 68 must stay that way, with swing aling axel

Hey Dave, you didn't go to the dark side, you went to the deaf side. I was in your neck of the woods Friday and saw this brown/rust colored beetle on Jefferson. What really caught my eye was the \"stock bug challenge\" and \"snore\" stickers on the window. I knew it could only be one person. I must have seen you drive up and down Jefferson a million times. I was honking and yelling to no avail. Besides, whats so dark about driving a bug daily? A bug is my choice for daily transportation. What really makes it fun is when I put a gigantic motor in it and go and pick on Toyotas and Hondas. Enjoy and have fun with it.

Shes a beut isnt she LOL It was my wifes fault for the 2 times going down Jefferson Chip, we went to pay a couple of Bills and went home then she decides we need to eat dinner exactly were we had been 5 minutes after getting home. I love that little 300 dollar car, it runs fantastic and does not leak even the slightest bit of oil. Infact I can park it on my oil free drive way.It has the original engine to the owners Manuel as well as original factory vw shocks that came off the car yesterday replaced by new bright white Empie gas shocks. I can honestly say it runs like a new engine would. When we went home from dinner I got her up to 85 on the freeway and it was still picking up speed untill I saw a CHP and backed her down. It is hard to believe it has 37142 miles on the car but when you look at it close it is obviously true. What I dont and never will understand is why a car with so few miles would be allowed to sit out and weather like it has. in the middle of putting a alternator on it now, the generator is doing funky things. Chip what makes a generator charge erratically? and not enough to charge the battery all the way but enough to make the light go out but sometimes comes on real dimly? I put new brushes? in top and bottom but no change.

Hmm, generators are usually bulletproof other than brush maintenance. Generators are all I use except the 11 with all the draw (radios fans pumpers tons of lighting) I don't think the gen would keep up. What I have done on a stubborn gen is spray wd40 on the armature (where the brushes ride) while the motor is running and that changed the way it acted. Or maybe the voltage regulator under the seat. Other than that there's nothing more to the charging system. Besides, working on old VWs is half the fun. How does the car ride and go down the road? Smooth? I know my super beetle has a better ride than most new cars with the long late model torsions. Even my 63 (swing mind you) is extremely smooth. Its amazing how far ahead of the times VW was on their engineering. The tiny rust bubbles sounds like the car may have come from the beach.
