My son went into the bak yard to put the Deathmobile back in its cave and just for the heck of it he hit the starter swith and the car started rite up!!! I cut the tail lite wires when I got it on the trailER AT THE 2ND road crossing but the dash lites were very dim and the carwould not start or even engage the starter. When its not your day its not your day. Oh well it was fun while it lasted!!!

Sorry about the bad luck Dave. I lost my phone and all contacts on the way home from Laughlin. When you have time please give me a call.

What kind of wiring/harness do you run Dave? Call me crazy but believe it or not, I run the factory wiring and fuse block that came with the car from Volkswagen in 1970. I get a lot of criticism from many who see what type of wiring I run. I never had a wiring issue in the short 3 years I've been racing class 11 (knock on wood). I have been knee deep into VWs for alooooong time and am confident and can trace any part of the factory wiring in my sleep. I run 3 additional circuits in conjunction with the factory loom each on it's own fuse. (HID lights, pumper and fuel pump). I also carry a long jumper wire just in case. I can disable all the wiring and run a jumper from the battery straight to the pos. side of the coil to finish a race. Haven't had to use it yet though.

This is the first time Chip in 35+ years that I have had something like this happen. The yellow light in the late model Vw tail lite is what shorted out and the 40 amp circuit breaker I was using kept tripping on and off and by the time I bypassed the wire from the relay next to it the battery was nearly flat and barly lit up the dash lites. In the heat of the moment in the pouring rain it was hard to figure where the short was comming from which now makes sence. I have the fewest wires possible to run the car and dash lites wipper and horn, nothing else. By the time I had cutters to cut the rear lite off the battery was dead to the point of not lighting the dash lites at all when we pushed it on the trailer. The few days sitting in the back yard charged its self to start. Oh well, at least I dont have to re wire the car now, just the rear tail lite and replace the failed 40 AMP breaker. At the time the hanging lite didnt register with me as the cause. Live and learn

Dave-
I have heard thru the class 11 grapevine that you might be selling your car. Are you still considering it? What kind of $$ are we talking? Feel free to respond via PM if you don't want to have the info out.
