I wanted to check my interpretation of the new Class 11 rules against what the other Class 11 Coalition members view as the changes. For clarification I am talking about the rules as of Feb-14-2006, that are posted on the SCORE website and the changes to the “original” Class 11 rules, those that were in effect prior to Jan-1-2006.
CLASS 11
Rear Suspension
Rear suspension torsion bars may be of any origin. Rear suspension springs plates may be of any origin. Torsion bar adjusters are allowed. Torsion bar grommets may be of any manufacturer but must retain stock VW dimensions.
Rear torsion bars may be additionally supported only by the attachment of a terminal end (support member) of the roll cage.
Rear shock tower may be removed to body mounting bolthole. Lower rear shock mounts may be removed and or replaced. Rear shocks may be relocated, but must bolt directly to rear trailing arm or swing axle. No remote mounted shocks.
Rear trailing arms must remain stock, shape, size, and configuration, but may be reinforced by adding material.
CR10 SHOCK ABSORBERS and BUMP STOPS
Only one shock per wheel is allowed. Stock front shock mounts must be utilized. Shock mounting bolts may be changed to a maximum of 0.5" in diameter. Any manufacture shock allowed with 2" maximum outside diameter. Rear shock MUST NOT have an extended length longer than 18”, center of mounting hold to center of mounting hold. Cooling fins and/or reservoirs allowed. No air shocks or coil over shocks are allowed. No hydraulic bump stops allowed. No bypass shocks allowed.

So I guess the changes right off are that the rear stock shock mount can now be cut back to the body mounting hole, (like 5-1600) and the stock rear trailing arm may now also be reinforced by adding material.
It looks to me that the rear shock changes from using stock upper mount and shortened by 1” lower mount to open mounting position as long as it is directly attached to the trailing arm and is not more than 18” in length when fully extended.
The rear shock also changes in size from 2.4” to 2” with no bypass shocks allowed.
Is that how everyone else interprets these changes? I was just wondering because there seemed to be some confusion on the “New Rules Announcement” thread. Some have expressed that these new changes make the rule change closer to the originals than the previous changes. So again, I was wondering if this is going to settle the whole building new cars to the new rules or “old school” divide?
Just wonder what the rest of you are thinking.
I’m still pissed because it looks like I have to shelve my cool new 2.4” internal bypass shocks.

The new rule still dont make sence. You can remove the shock mount, cut the body, Have spacail shocks made, and you still arnt going to get any more travail. yes more shock shaft but no more travail. You still are hitting the upper inner fender and you are dropped out as much as you can go. So they hooked abunch of you in on this one. Stay stock and go have some fun in your 11 car. best of luck.
