OK guys, Dad just got off of the phone with Brad Williams at Maxxis. He told him our situation about the tires both in size and the tread we we're running.
Brad told us that the tires both in size and tread that we're currently running will continue to qualify for contingency. We are presently running the Bravo 751 in a 215/75/15. Mr. Williams said, that regarding the recent information about the NEW required tire size and tread as stated on the 2006 MDR contingency form, that we would not be required to adhere to this. As far as we know, this may be a class 11 exception only as we described to him our concerns regarding the Bighorn tires. He said he wasn't sure as to why the form had been changed, and to go ahead and race on the same Maxxis tires as we had before as we would continue to qualify for contingency. I want to make sure come race day that MDR knows and doesn't have any issue with this so I encourage the rest of you who are running the tires to call Mr. Brad Williams @ 1-800-4-Maxxis and confirm with him what we've already been told. It's still a great deal and puts a nice incentive out there for others to come race. |

The sad part about there tires is I have been talking to MAXXIS about there tires for a year. I have been trying to get a set to try so everybody would know what fits. We run 235-75-15 BRAVOS. They are 1/2 inch wider then a BFG All-Terrain. We ran the BRAVOS last race and they worked. Rubbed on the front fenders a little to much. . After looking at the Big Horns i think they may be to aggressive. Thank you Maxxis for the contengency. Dennis

Well we still have no regrets. We will run shaved/profiled and tubed 235/75s BigHorns at the king 250 and you guys will get feedback from me.
I'm not exactly excited that we are changing to a more aggressive tire, but we were experiencing some issues last race toward the end of the race regarding traction. We'll see how they hold up. For us, it was a move in good faith to 235s since we will get the larger tire. I doubt we'll be using 3rd gear much anymore. I calculated our speeds: In 2nd gear @3000rpm we'll get 30.4mph, @5000 rpm to be over 50mph with the 28.9in tire diameter, 4.12 r/p and 2.06 2nd gear ratio. So, I don't think we'll miss 3rd gear too much. I think #1111 could now be nick named 2nd gear mobile. Save 1st for the big hills. We'll see. Free tires are fun. No risk. No return. |
