I am sure everyone has heard the news about last evenings MDR nightrace. Let us know if any of the Class 11 coalition members were injured or killed. Keep everyone involved in you prayers. This will have lasting effects on everyone involved from spectators to first responders, not to mention what it will do to racing as we know it

We made a small donation to Fast Aid, which was set up to help racers in situations like this.

Dirt is for racing. Asphalt is just for getting there.

I would like to offer some advise to the Class 11 teams. Please do not take this as criticisim of MDR or those injured, killed and especially the driver of the 1450 Truck involved in the accident.
This topic has been around alot in past years on Race Dezert and the Class 3 racing site. Liability.... Remember that those who spectate and don't sign an offical release form from the race promoter can sue you. Your best friend who is you co-driver will never sue you, but his wife or her husband will. Remember the saying worth more dead than alive? No one wants to loose their house to pay an attorney or a judgement from a court. Ask any cop, Robert Johnson or myself how many times we have been in court over BS and serious accidents. Think about getting a Limited Liability Corporation or at the least have everyone who rides, chases or spectates with you to sign a release. I have a copy of ours. Use it at your own risk, I would reccomend that you have your attorney check it over before you just copy it changing the Team Desert Dawgs to your names.I have sent it unlocked, so you simply change names and wording. My point of view only. Does not consitute legal advise... Jeff |

LLCs (sort of a plug for one of our sponsors) 1 year, 5 months ago #13407

Hey all,
We're in the process of setting up an LLC through MyLLC.com, which is a sponsor of our race team. I strongly support everything that Weasel said. If you're involved in any sort of accident, the people involved might not sue you, but insurance companies are always looking for someone to sue so that they're not stuck with the bill. The MyLLC folks are tremendously helpful (and patient, because I'm an idiot) and they take the time to lay out all the options so you get exactly what you need. Example, I told them the main reason I need an LLC is for liability protection and so I don't have to personally pay taxes on money we'll eventually be raking in from sponsors. That gave them the info they needed to get me going in the right direct. There's also a great book "LLCs for Dummies" that was written by one of the founders. Between reading through the book and talking with them, I felt I've got a good understanding of how these things work. If anyone is interested, email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I'll shoot you the contact info for my guy there. |
