I understand we need to retain the stock steering mount, but do we have to keep the stock steering stalk in place? That is, can I take out all the stuff for wipers, turn signals, and ignintion switch? The housing also has the steering bearing in it, do I need to use that?
Thanks. |

you can take the turn signal stuff out as well as the key mechanism. everything else the housing-the expanded metal safety thing all must be kept and the way Vw made it. If the rule book does not say you can do something then you must leave it alone the way Vw made it. In class 11 you can not take it upon yourself to do things you want, the argument that "Hey the rule book doesn't say I cant do that wont work Read the very beginning of the rules for class 11, the part that says any modifications not listed in this book must remain factory stock. That goes from bumper to bumper

Larry,
A quick release steering wheel is legal. As ok'ed by SCORE and SNORE tech. inspectors, Bill Savage an Bill Shapley. No mfg makes an adapter from the VW metric shaft end to the quick release hub. So you have to weld the steel hub to the steering column shaft. |
