just curious if J tubes and the aftermarket cool tins are leagal.and wider cooling fan? any other advice would be good to.i like my engines to run cool.

J tubes yes (any exhaust system may be used) but the stock tins must be used and I am not aware of any wider cooling fans that fit the dimensions of the stock VW tins..

You can run cool tins but they will get crap stuck in them, it's better to use the stock under cylinder tins and wire tie them into place. You can use either fan, early or late (doghouse).
