Ok, so...
What's the general consensus on tubular bumpers? I've seen a few, but there's no specific mention of them in the rulebook, unless you can call it a skidplate, or part of the rollcage. Can a tubular bumper be attached to the stop bumper brackets, and, is there any specific attachment method to make it legal? Also, on the front, can a small lightbar be built off of the tubular bumper (ie, for mounting 2 lights)? |

To clarify, tubular bumpers behind stock ones. Obvi.

We have tubular bumpers fitted inside the stock bumpers front and rear.
I recall we mounted two amber lights to the bumper by drilling holes in it, though I know others built light bars to support them. Regardless, they apparently are so terrifying to behold at night that some cars WILL JUST GET OUT OF YOUR WAY. I'm not naming any names, but you know who you are. :) |

Dirt is for racing. Asphalt is just for getting there.

I guess what I'm curious about is whether or not I could notch bodywork for the bumper to clear. I'd ideally like to mount the bumper off of the front beam, but if I have to pass it under the front nose, I'd be sacrificing some ground clearance...
I don't think I could really in good conscious call a tubular bumper part of the rollcage which would allow me to cut stuff out of the way. |

There is no bumping allowed in class 11, I think most Class 11 cars weld a bar from stock bumper mount to stock bumper mount, Bend bar to stay inside the stock bumper, run skid plat up and bolt it through the stock bumber and bar bumper with tabs or wholes throught the bar, run light tabs off the bar bumper,
The stock mounts are used per regulations, and it keeps the class 11 looking stock as it should, nothing looks better than a flyin stock vw bug, Look at Dave C picture - its a classic! |
