Does anyone run a windshield in their class 11 car? If not what is the reason? I have looked at a lot of pictures of class 11 cars and haven't seen any with windshields or side glass--- the SCORE rule book says that front, side and rear glass is optional other than weight is there any reason not to run glass? Working on my first class 11 car,any help is appreciated!

We dont run one, wish we did, cold at night and windy. Dave-co runs one on everything maybe he will answer this for you. I would say run one, I am putting one in my 5/1600 because of Dave.....

I know most people remove the glass for safety, weight reduction, and ventilation (oil coolers, etc). But, It would be nice to have a removable windshield for night races or long courses that could be installed after the fact or during the race if desired.

If I were going to do one, I would do it out of plexi or speedglass. Probably speeglass...
it would really suck to try to remove all of the glass pieces if you managed to break it. |

Exactly. You could probably do a removable made out of plexi, I would never want to do it with real glass. Problem is that plexi tends to scratch so you'd have to handle it with care and prep it with lots of rain-x or other motocross type lens prep to make it say clean and not become foggy after being wiped down to clear off dust and such. Would definately be nice for a night race but the glare might not be worth the comfort.

It is nice to run a windshield I always ran glass because it was the cheapest way to go. With a windshield you also need a washer and wiper set up too, or you will be sucking ass in wet race. I found the glass would last about 1 or 2 races max and either be smashed or chipped.

I allways run a stock vw windsheild with wippers on my class 11 and 5/16 cars. I personally would do it no other way. I have never had a problem with it breaking or chipping. It keeps you cleaner, and no need for pumper or goggles. And it has been proven that a VW with the windsheild is faster overall than with out. Its nice just using sunglasses, or wippers and washer to clean the windsheild. From experiance I have found pumpers can hinder your race by fogging up, or scrathing the sheild by wipping with dirty rags. Driving with the sheild open part way to keep from fogging allows dust to get on the inside of the sheild and the biggest down fall to the pumper in a really dusty race is the little air filter gets dirty then starts force feeding dust into your face. It your choice.
