Sealing pan to body... 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
How is the pan and body sealed best? Is the gasket between the 2 OK? is it better to use an RTV type sealant? How about both items? I plan on spraying bedliner material on pan under and over additionally. Any thoughts?

I'm by far not an expert. But, I spent a lot of time preping my pan and painting it. After a few thousand miles of racing, there was no need to. It is beat up and looks like crap. The rhino lining idea IMO would just add weight and be an added expense.

Is this a show car or a racer? If it is show/street I would use the factory rubber pan to body seal (Westcoast Metrics or Wolfsburg West). The rhino lined pan will also add some insulation/sound deadner. If it is a race 11, don't waste your money on the the rhino lining and just use the stock pan seal as they almost never wear out.

You don't need to do either/any of that stuff: Don't bother doing more than patching holes in the pan, the thing is just going to get scrapped and beat up, especially behind the seats just in front of the torsion housing, that part always gets pushed up and you give it a good stomp after the race and wha-lah, fixed!

Second, I scrape most of the seal off when cleaning up the pan just so it doesn't get on everything, putting the body back together doesn't matter if there's one in there or not, I've always left enough in there to prevent squeeking.

Finally, the only place I would apply a coating would be in front where your feet go for traction, but that's a preference thing. It's just going to fill up with silt anyway. Better off with a dead pedal for the driver and a footrest for the codog. My two cents.....
