If you are going to run a tranny mid mount I would suggest getting the mount that is installed between the nose cone and the rest of the transmision. Your case will have to be machined for it but it is much stronger. The mount shown above will still allow flex in the transmission.

We did the same. There are more bolts holding in our tranny than anything else. At last count our tranny was held in by 14 different bolts! I guess it would be 15 if you count the shift rod coupler.

Does anyone know how much the empi solid trans mount raises the transmission? Or if anyone has a stock mount and could post a pic of it next to an empi mount that would be greatly appreciated as well. I'm talking about the rear mount to the framehorn of course!

Mike, they average 2 inches, some more. You have got to mock up with a motor/tranny with the cylider tin in place to put it in the stock position then mark and redrill the holes in the motor mount, as far as Mid mounts, the one in the picture seams fine, But I called Bill Savage about machined tranny cases for Mid mounts, while being the best way to do it, class 11 does not fall in the best way to do it catogory. I called to ask If I could do it to my car, about 10 minutes ago, his answer was QUOTE\" Dave, what do you think, were does it say you can do that, the book says you can modify the inside, that would be far from just an inside mod, you could not argue that, nowere does it say you can cut the case away, or modify the outside in any way, this is class 11, read the first part of the rule book for class 11, if it doesnt say you can, you cant.\"UNQUOTE I mentioned nobody but myself, he said he thinks its illegal, but give him a day or so to look into it but to not get my hopes up. All my 16 car cases are machined, but those classes it says you are allowed to do it, class 11 does not. As far as angle iron on the horns, I personally could care less what cars have done on them, the real strength comes from the down tubes to the horns by the engine mount.Bell housing straps are a waste, the chances of braking the 4 bolts that bolt the bell housing to the mount are 0. I do recomend the strap over the gear carrier. Try to never bolt to the nose cone, it is the weakest point on the entire tranny. a broken nose cone can end your race, not allways, but most of the time

Well I don't want to take the body off, put it on, and take it off again to do all the suspension work so I'm going to get a stocker off ebay or something and just make them the same.... Any other easy ways to do this?
I really don't want to do the torsion adjuster and stops with the body on the car. |
