Call MetalCraft, Scott wont steer you wrong or overprice you. If you go to transwerks, big money and you might get a Gliesen ring and pinion......

Scudders Performance in Reno charged us about 1050.00 for a trans. It seemed steep to me at the time.
3/4 gear tig welded, hardened keys, super-diff, side cover, steel shift forks, all new bearings, throw out bearing, and new spider gears. Thats all that I can remember with digging out the reciept.

It depends on your core, and how much you want to pay for parts. For example if your core has a cherry \"K\" ring and pinion, you save some money, however if it has a \"G\" ring and pinion and you cant come up with a \"K\"or dont want to spend the coin on one you get atrans that is not quite as strong but still considerd acceptable. Do you wish to pay for 1 or 2 side covers?, Billit or cast? There is too many varibles to give a price on a \"built\" trans.I could build a trans that is leagle from 500$ to over 3500$ that is still leagle.

So what is the difference between a $500 tranny and a $3500 tranny?

Stock rebuild with welded 3-4,super diff, steel 1-2 fork (you already have 3-4 fork in steel, and possibly 1-2) Approx500$
Then upgrade R-p to the best possible, upgrade mainshaft to the best possible, convert to super splines, the best 3rd and4th possible rhino case or gussett stock case, Billit covers,10t superdiff, c/m diff cover,091 flanges,c/m pinion nut or retainer, the price of all bearings, syncros, gaskets ect,,,, you will have more than 3500 in it.

Go with Scott for your transmission needs. I know that its not rocket science, but he has the same, if not more knowledge. He is a true blue VW dude.... He has had years of experience trying what will and what won't work, and on his own stuff. He has a clean reputation with those that use him and if he says he is doing something, he is going to put it in there. I have had the priveledge of watching him put several transaxles together for me and it's amazing what he knows off the top of his head! I am not going to badmouth any other transaxle makers but I can honestly tell you I have seen what the competition sold as a race prepped transaxle and there were some questionable parts that should have not been in there. Eric Solorzano has switched to Scott and is very happy with his work. There are several other racers on this site that use him and they will tell you nothing less than what I've said. As for prices, call him.
