Good Morning:
My partner and I are reasonably proficient mechanically. I have owned several VWs over the year and in fact use a '69 for advertising for my business now, I'll post some pix sometime. When inspecting a Class 11 car that has been raced before, what are the main things to pay attention to? You all have walked this path long before I have. Your advice is appreciated. |

WOW! Once again I am new to this forum but still shocked on the lack of responce! 327 views and not one response! That sucks people! Speak up!
As I am completely new to VW's but have spent my last 18 years in the car biz, I would issue's are always structural. If the body is junk then it will always be junk. Under carriage tells almost the hole story so inspect closely. Engine stuff is easy to fix. steering, shocks, and axel will be normal maintenance to replace between races. Since your post in January, I assume you've answered your questions already or bought one! I'm trying to get the lazy one's to stop watching and start repyling! ;) |

SLUGG keep them in line. Yes the board has slowed down alittle bit. Things to look for. Cracked front shock towers, beam, look for cracks in the tunnel, rear torson housing and the rear horns sagging down. other them that run the crap out of it. Hope this helps. I will repeat Trophysedans comment. Check all major suspension point for cracks. The body is going to be trashed or get trashed so not much worry there. If it runs start it up and go for a spin, local laws permitting. Wind it up in each gear and let off the gas to see if it holds the gear, it might pop out of gear indicating a transmission problem. Really just look for good overall integrity. If it you don't like the look of something pass on the car. Remember these things have been raced and have taken a beating most of the time. If you think you can reapair it and don't mind the time go for it, if not look for another car. It comes down to how much time you are willing to put into fixing or rebuilding the car. Later.

punkmonkey,
I understand about cracked and broken suspension, tranny problems, etc. What I don't know is where to go looking for another car is the one I find doesn't look good! Any suggestions? Thanks, Chass ct |
