Do you guys wire a thermostat, switch or just to the ignition? which is the best solution.

We hardly use ours unless we're in a rough section and lugging the car. The thermostat is just another problem waiting to happen, and I wouldn't wire it to run straight off the ignition. Run it through a toggle switch.

Ours is wired to a switch. I like the piece of mind of knowing we can control it. Don't think you want it off the ignition as you want the car to be able to warm up and not take forever. My .02

Sweet, I will do it that way, thanks for the info and help. I appreciate being able to use your knowledge and expierience and not re-invent the wheel, I'd rather just do it right the first time.

Switched. After the motor is hott, we turn it on and leave it there for the entire race. Most of those fans draw about 6 amps so it's nice to be able to turn it off if you stall to get some extra juice for starting. That's why we did it that way.

how can we run a light that goes off when the oil temp gets too hot?
so we would know to turn on the fan with the switch?

You would need to plumb a thermostatic switch, the same kind of thing as the thermostat but instead of hooking it up to the fan, hook it up to the light.

not the samething that goes to the gauge. it would need to be a temperature switch that closes on a rise in temperature.instead of running the switch to a fan or other device you would run it to a light, or just have to co rider watch the temp gauge
