I am asking if you racers are doing any modifications to stock wheels for example by adding welds to the wheel where the center meets the rim (on back side), reinforcing the lug bolt/nut area, etc?

Thanks and good luck next week.

We have never done anything to a stock wheel. So far no problems.

Same. If you bend the center then just get another wheel and swap the tire over. When the rim edge gets bent just use a piece of wood and a 2 lb sledge to get it back into shape, no problemo with tubes in your tires.

We've been playing with this. It's not reinforcing per se, but what seems to work for us is first doing an acid dip, which reduces the stock rim weight by about 15%, which helps with centripetal force. Then we dip them in a dry ice bath, which re-strengthens them. We've had a couple explode, but otherwise we're getting 2-3 mph faster out of a set of rims which, technically, are still stock.

After the 1000, we're going to look at what irradiation will do after an acid bath.

More power to yah! Do you know off hand how much a stock rim weighs? I'm thinking around 10 lbs or so.

Richard,
Great Idea change the molecular weight of the metal and you'll have a lighter rim! That'll get you some more MPH!

We're looking at irradiating them mostly because I want them to glow blue like Dr. Manhattan from \"Watchmen\". For the night races.

Also, this is Jim, not Richard. He doesn't share my vision for irradiating the car.
