What is the point of shaved tires? just so that you can run a bigger tire and still clear the fenders? And what do you just shave the outside edge of the tires. Just kinda curious.

Thanks

shaving tires is better for performance because more tread lessens the surface area of rubber that will contact the ground. Think Nascar tires, no \"tread\" so they have maximum surface area of rubber touching the ground in dry conditions and so they grip the dry road better. As soon as it rains they stop the race because the tread that they don't have is designed for non-dry conditions. Also every time tires get hot (every time you drive) the rubber compound gets harder and less flexible and therefore has less grip (this happens very slowly).

So... a shaved tire will have better grip than a tire that is worn down to the same level of tread of the shaved tire because it hasn't gone through the hot to cold process and is still at its most flexible state enabling the most grip and the shaving also gives better surface area for contacting the ground.

And I think shaving the outside edges is due to some tires having tread on these parts and the theory is that shaving these parts won't allow the corner tread to grip and keep the car going straighter or less effort to keep it straight.

I dont think Dave co shaves his tires, but the reason we did it to our bfg all terrains was we found that if we shaved off the square edges of the tire we didnt get tossed around from left to right nearly as much.Everyone has there own crazy reasons for doing things, but i think the key is finding what fits your driving style and set up.

if your being thrown around from left to rite it sounds as if your front end is way out on alignment as I NEVER get that feeling from my tires unshaved. I just have never botherd to shave the tires on my 11 car, really never had a reason to. If you like it that way great if not great---Dave-co
