TOPIC: Basic Necessities

Basic Necessities 2 years, 6 months ago #10060

Hi,
I am a college student looking to race the 2010 Baja 1000. I am on an extremely tight budget and want to race Class 11.

What are the must have upgrades I need in order to have a chance at completing the race? This question means what else do I need besides a stock VW and a roll cage? If anyone can list the items and a ballpark figure of the cheapest way I can build one of these that would be great.
Thank You

Hi Blake,

I'm in the process of building a Class 11 to race the 2009 (if all goes well). There are some definite expenses involved. I should have my car race ready with spares for just under $10,000. Call me on my cell phone (530)320-1566 and I'll run it down for you.

Bob

I'm in a similar situation: I'm captain of a three-(looking for fourth)-man race team, all college students, planning on racing Class 11 in 2011 (oh, see what I did there?). I'd be interested to hear what you're learning, and would love to throw what I learn your way.

My little brother, who is our tech-man, tells me that once you actually get the car, even if it has a roll-cage, you really do need to take the whole thing apart and put it all back together again, to do it right. A pre-built car is not a bad idea if you want to save some time, but I couldn't tell you about how it works out money-wise.

Hope this helps at least a little bit. I'll pass anything else I learn by way of basic cheap-equipment lists your way, if you'd like.
