My name is Erik, and I am a half-Swedish guy who lives in Camarillo, California. I've been looking around, for some time, for a hobby to share with my dad. He's been into cars since forever as far as I can tell, and he has done a bit of racing. I think I've managed to turn him on to a class 11 project. Hence, I've been lurking about here for a while now trying to pick up pointers from past mistakes and successes. I must say it's quite the resource!
We haven't made up our collective mind completely yet, but it's leaning towards buying something in need of TLC and elbow grease off Craigslist and doing a ground-up build. Seems easier to hide the drain on the bank account from our better halves that way...
We are both reasonably handy, know how to weld, etc. What we're lacking in is specific VW knowledge and off road experience, so I'm hoping you all will make me a much wiser man.
If someone in the general LA vicinity (or Santa Barbara vicinity!) would be willing to offer up a few minutes of their time to show off their class 11 (finished or project) and exchange ideas in person I'd be very grateful!
