...........a 16 gallon fuel tank for a 1961-1967 Bug will fit in a 1972 \"standard, non-super\" bug ?????

Yes it will, Some claim they are 16 gallon, but they are 13 gallon for the long range gas tank replacment. I have used those several times with no problems--Dave-co

I claim there is a VW part number that is really 16 gallons using a calibrated plastic fuel jug. Yes I'm a scientist and I know that's not THE most accurate way to measure. We had one and it held over 15 gallons. They do fit, we had to 'help' ours fit into the opening. They are kind of low quality as most Brasil parts seem to be. It was about $100 from CIP1.com at the time we got ours. Good luck.
