picked up a 30--pict2 carb. and EMPI adapter yesterday and when I got back to the shop and tried to assemble the adapter to the carb. I found that it would not fit---one way the accelerator pump rod hits and the other way the throtle plate lever (where the barrel nut for the cable goes) hits. What do I do now???the only thing I can think of is to modify the accelerator pump linkage---any ideas?? Thanks for any help I can get.

the adapter is for 30 Pict-1 carbs. The accelerator pump on a pict-2 is different.

Thanks for the information on the carb.--I've already made all the off road mods, on this carb. and according to the score book pict 1--2--3 are all legal is there any advantage to any one? I'd like to use this carb. if it will work as well as a pict 1. I don't know much about vw carbs so any information I can get would help. I think I can modify the accelerator linkage to make it work, but I will just start over with a pict 1 if it's a better carb! Thanks agin for helping out a newbie!

Yes Jim, there is a difference. The accelerator pump arm on the 30 pict 1 runs along the side of the carb. The 30 pict 2 and 3 run along the bottom that would interfere with the carb adapter. I have seen the adapter on the pict 2 and 3 carbs so it can be done. I prefer the 30 pict 1 round bowl carb for its hemispherical shape. It keeps fuel slosh to a minimum while bouncing around in the desert. Main jet changes can also be made in the blink of an eye as it is part of the bowl drain plug unlike pict 2 and 3 where it is inside the bowl and if it slips away from you, the top of the carb has to be taken off just to retrieve it. Hope this helps.

Pict 2 bowl is roughly twice the operating volume of the replacement round bowls. Just saying, if it works it would have an advantage there.

Thanks for the information--- I know nothing about vw carb's ! I was able to bend the accelerator pump rod so it would fit, I'am going to run it and see how it works. Thanks agin for the info.
